Safety Science and Engineering is a human-centered comprehensive discipline that involves the elements of life, nature, technology, society and systems. Its core idea is the idea of safety systems. Safety Science and Engineering is the backbone supporting discipline of Public Safety,involving multiple fields such as natural disasters, accidents and disasters, occupational health, public health, social security, etc., which can conduct research around safety systems, emergencies, disaster-bearing carriers, emergency management, and their interactions.
The Safety Science and Engineering discipline of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology traces its origins to the Mine Ventilation Teaching and Research Group, established in 1958.In 1987, our university, with the approval of the former China Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation and the Ministry of Education, established the Mine Ventilation and Safety major. Subsequently, in 1988, the major of Safety Engineering was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education.Our university obtained the right to award a master’s degree in the second-level disciplines of safety technology and engineering in 2001.Notably, our university began awarding the master degree of Engineering in Safety Engineering in 2004 and the master degree in the first-level discipline of Safety Science and Engineering in 2011. Safety Engineering holds the distinction of being a National Management Professional Pointand was designated as a key construction discipline during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period of Jiangxi Province in 2005. Furthermore, it earned recognition asa BrandedMajorof Jiangxi Province in the same year.In 2006, it was awarded the second batch of demonstrative master’s points in Jiangxi Province. In 2008, it was approved by Jiangxi Province as the construction majorof characteristic major construction points in colleges and universities.
It possesses an academic team with high educational level, active academic thought and strong scientific research ability.Among them, there are 2 professors, 8 associate professors and 21 master student supervisors, with 100% of full-time teachers holding doctorate and master’s degrees.Having scientific research platforms such as“Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education for Efficient Development and Application Technology of Tungsten Resources”and its postdoctoral workstation,Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory and Teaching Demonstration Centerof Mining Engineering,it is a characteristic major of Jiangxi Province,a“Eleventh Five-Year”key discipline in Jiangxi Province and demonstration master’s point.Over the past 5 years, it has undertaken 13 national-levelprojects, 22 provincial and ministerial projects, and 57 project sentrusted by enterprises,with a scientific research project funding of over 20 million RMB.It has gotten 2 awards at or above provincal and ministerial level and 28 authorized patents.The talented faculty has published 7 monographs and teaching materials, and over 150 academic papers,including more than 50 papers indexed by SCI/EI/CSCD.
